Triac Linear Light Fixture
If you’re asking me what the best value OG-spec lighting solution is for a garage, this is it. These linear fixtures give you the kind of light I want in a proper garage: clean output, good dispersion, high color quality, and the ability to dim the space when you don’t need full brightness.
I’ll still carry our four-bulb and six-bulb overhead lights for people who don’t want to build out a linear lighting layout. But if I’m designing the garage from scratch, and I want the ceiling to look clean, I’m using these.
For a standard garage setup, here’s what you’ll typically need:

OG Linear Light Fixtures
Our OG Triac Linear fixtures are available in a 4-foot (47.25") length and can be connected together with our union adapters. They’re designed to be installed in a clean, continuous layout, so you can build a longer linear run using multiple fixtures. Power is brought into one fixture, then the remaining fixtures can be linked together for up to a total of 8 lights linked together.

Standard Dimmer Control
If you plan on running multiple fixtures on one circuit, make sure the dimmer or switch is sized for the total connected wattage/amperage. Each 4-foot fixture consumes 45 watts. You can use our Lutron Diva Forward Phase Dimmer. The 250W version can run up to five fixtures. The linked fixtures cannot exceed 400W total when running at 120V, so do not connect more than eight fixtures together in a single linked run on 120V. If you don't want to run a dimmer, simply find a switch that can run the amperage of your run (8 lights max); each light pulls 0.375 amps.

Wireless Control with Lutron Pico
If you want wireless control with a Lutron Pico remote, you’ll need to use a compatible Lutron RadioRA 2 dimmer, or the Caseta switch used in our Advanced Lighting Solutions, and program the Pico to that dimmer. These dimmers have a 250W limit, which means they can control up to five fixtures based on the 45W draw of each light.
When connecting fixtures together, you’ll need to use the included union bracket. This is the plate that ties two fixtures together with a total of 16 screws, giving the run a solid mechanical connection instead of just relying on the fixture housings to line themselves up.
Depending on your layout, you may also need wall plates, switches, dimmers, or other lighting-control accessories. You can find those in our lighting control collection.
The right way to approach this is to start with the garage dimensions and ceiling height. From there, build a layout, run a lighting calculation, and determine how many fixtures the space actually needs. For the kind of garage lighting we’re after, the target is typically around 120 foot-candles, but anything above 100 is excellent!
