Lutron Caséta ELV+ Smart Dimmer

This is the Caséta dimmer I use when I need to control more than a basic LED load.

The PD-5NE is a phase-selectable smart dimmer designed for LED, ELV, MLV, incandescent, and halogen lighting. It uses a neutral connection and lets you select the dimming phase, which makes it a better choice for lighting systems where a standard dimmer doesn’t give you the control you need.

The important part is the load compatibility. It can handle up to 250W of 120V-rated LED lighting, 500W of incandescent or halogen lighting, 500W of ELV, and 400VA of MLV loads.

Why I Use It

I like the PD-5NE when I’m dealing with higher-end lighting or fixtures with electronic drivers. Being able to switch between forward- and reverse-phase dimming gives you another tool when a particular LED fixture doesn’t behave well with a standard dimmer.

I use this switch with the Advanced Lighting Solutions in the store. This switch feeds the Lutron Phase Adaptive Power Module, which controls the actual dimming of the OG fixtures due to their higher wattage requirements.

It also integrates into the Caséta system, so you can control it from the wall, the Lutron app, or through the rest of your Caséta setup.
