Bosch GPX 12V-125 5" Cordless Polisher
This is the bigger, more usable version of the Bosch cordless polishing platform.
The 3-inch Bosch makes sense for pillars, bumpers, edges, and tight spots. The 5" GPX 12V-125 takes that same cordless idea and scales it up into something you can actually use on larger panels. It gives you the convenience of a cordless machine without stepping all the way into a full-size polishing setup.
Bosch brings some real credibility here. This isn’t a random cordless polisher from a detailing brand trying to figure out power tools. Bosch already knows how to build compact, battery-powered tools that can take real use. That matters because cordless polishers can get weird fast. Bad balance, weak power, cheap controls, poor battery life, or tools that feel good on paper but annoying in your hand. The Bosch avoids most of that.
I still look at this as a middle-tier tool. It is not replacing a high-end correction machine. It is not meant to be your only polisher. But for light polishing, one-step work, quick corrections, and cordless convenience, it makes sense.
Where It Fits
- Light polishing on larger panels
- One-step correction work
- Quick polishing jobs where a corded setup feels like overkill
- Mobile jobs or maintenance polishing
- A cordless companion to your full polishing system
What I Like
The trigger lock is the big one. This is one of those features you don’t care about until you use it. Not having to hold the trigger the whole time makes the tool much easier to run, especially when you’re working around a vehicle and changing positions often.
The 5-inch backing plate makes this version far more practical for panel work. You can actually cover hoods, doors, fenders, and quarter panels without feeling like you’re wasting time. It still feels light and easy to manage, which is the point of this machine.
The controls are simple, the speed range is easy to work with, and the brushless motor gives it the kind of smooth, controlled feel you want in a cordless polisher.
Key Specs
- 5-inch backing plate
- 5/16" orbit
- 1,400 to 7,000 RPM
- 5 speed settings
- About 2.4 lbs bare tool
- Brushless motor
- 12V Bosch battery platform
How It Compares
The 3-inch Bosch is for detail work, tight areas, edges, bumpers, and smaller sections. The 5-inch Bosch is for light panel work, quick corrections, and one-step polishing when you want to stay cordless.
They serve different roles. The 3-inch is the tool you grab when a normal polisher won’t fit. The 5-inch is the tool you grab when you want to get actual panel work done without dragging out a cord.
The Reality
This still lives in that middle tier. It is not a correction monster, and it is not replacing something like a Mirka if you’re trying to build a no-compromise polishing setup, but it gets very close for less money.
The 12V platform has limits. Runtime and power are going to match the size of the tool. That’s fine, as long as you buy it for the right reason. This is about convenience, control, and quick usability. Not brute force.
Bottom Line
If you want cordless convenience for light polishing and one-step work, the Bosch GPX 12V-125 makes sense.
It gives you a practical 5-inch setup in a compact Bosch tool platform, which is the main reason I like it. It’s easy to grab, easy to control, and useful for the kind of jobs where setting up a full corded machine feels like too much. For a cordless 5-inch polisher that actually feels like a real tool, Bosch did a good job here.
