At first, I was going to dismiss these speakers completely, but after talking to Ken (VP of Sales at SVS), I concluded that these would actually work great in the garage next to cabinets. He told me he knows some custom installers who took these and mounted them to the rafters. I thought to myself; this is a fantastic idea.

These subwoofers fire down, so they would fill an oversized garage very well. If you decide to go with the PC-4000 (my pick), be prepared to have your chest filled with bass. I’m not exaggerating when I say these subs are so good.

SVS PC Series

The SVS PC series subs are the latest cylindrical models from a company that has made this approach to subwoofer very popular. It resembles a trash can right off the back, but the sound it produces is far from being trash. You can place this thing in the corner of a room or even behind a door away from the unsuspected listener despite its height.

The PC -2000 comes equipped with a 12" down-firing driver ensuring a light ridged and neutral radiating surround and a Sledge 550W Class D.  While the PC4000 comes in heavy with a 13.5' driver and boasting ample power from a powerful Sledge 1,200-watt continuous Class D design with 4,000+ watts of Peak Power. The build quality of these things is excellent, with a solid MDF construction and substantial internal bracing.

It’s wrapped in a fabric surround, so be prepared when putting this in a garage setting. It might not be the best solution for those who hate dust or other debris always coming into your garage, but that’s a nuisance I’m willing to live with for quality bass. The fabric surround isn't removable like other front-facing subwoofer covers, so please keep this in mind when choosing a PC Series sub for your garage environment.

Style

As I mentioned, it looks like a trash can or a pub-style table you’d find at a restaurant. It comes in a gloss black finish and black ash. You will also be happy to hear the rear control panel is kept very minimal, just having the basic controls like volume and the expected inputs with the visuals up front on the base of the cylinder. SVS did a really good job designing this thing.

Performance

If you’re big on bass, this is the subwoofer you want. The cylinder structure aids in delivering a deep bass from a relatively small footprint on the horizontal plane. This also translates to freedom when placing the sub in the corner areas of a room. The musicality of this subwoofer will do a great job with bass-heavy music and movies; it accurately recreates weighty gunfire and explosion scenes in movies with proper room correction and placement.

The four feet that decouple the cylinder off the ground are SVS's own SoundPath Subwoofer Isolation System. These four feet have very soft rubber insulating the sub from the floor, which translates to cleaner bass with less room rattle and bass bleed into other areas of your home. The 2000 range is the entry-level point for the Bluetooth remote app; it's flexible, effective, and intuitive, making setting up your sub an effortless task in real-time.

Final Thoughts

The PC Series subs are not only practical but well built with a good amount of performance, making it hard to downplay. If you have the space and you have metal cabinets, I think this is the way to go. I think these look better than most subwoofers, and you can tuck them away in the corner.

These subs are expertly engineered and deliver impressive performance for the listener looking for a space-saving subwoofer that rivals even its bigger SVS brothers. OG-spec for sure.
