The Chattahoochee River is a popular destination for fishing, particularly for trout. This river with its cool, and clear waters provides an ideal habitat for trout, as well as other species such as bass, catfish, and crappie. The river also offers plenty of opportunities for bank fishing as well as fishing from canoe or kayak.
The place we recommend checking out is Unicoi Outfitters, they are a fly-fishing specialist store right around the corner from the house. They are the oldest full-service fly shop in North Georgia and offer a wide range of fly-fishing equipment, including rods, reels, lines, and flies. They also offer fishing guide services on the Chattahoochee River and other nearby streams. You are looking at a $200/person plus tip (at the time of writing). They go through a basic fly fishing course. As well give you all the things you need. This is great for first timers and kids. They also provide a guided fishing trip to remote areas for the more experienced customers. We found it was a really great experience!
If you are here for a week, we recommend getting the fishing done in the AM, grab some lunch and hit up a nice leisure hike in the afternoon. If you are still looking for something to do, go out and hit up one of the driving route we mentioned in the Where To: Driving Section. The roads we recommend in the later afternoon as the sun sets in.
