I came across this tape while at SEMA. I wasn't particularly looking for new tape, but this one piqued my interest. It's different from the normal 3M Precision Tape in that it's made with a polyethylene backing instead of the typical paper backing.
Because of the poly backing, 3M was able to give this tape a really neat party trick - it tears in a straight line every time. It does take some practice to get used to getting it to tear clean but I found that pulling straight back gets you the best results. Another benefit of this tape over other tapes is that it can handle corners way easier.
Does this replace the 3M Precision Tape? I don't think so but you'll want to try it out to see how it works best for you. I keep both 3M Precision and Precision Poly in my cabinet for all my detailing projects.
I've decided to stock 3 sizes as I think these are the 3 that are most useful. They are available in 1/4", 3/4" and 2" sizes.
