Deep breath...almost all of the other products I now have in the OG store were very simple for me. Most of them I have been using for years or there is a very clear front runner for use in my garage. I've been very vocal of my apprehensions when it comes to a coating for either the paint or wheels. There can be significant cons that are often overlooked when dealing with a coating:
Not as easily installed
Very difficult to remove if you installed it incorrectly or don't want it on the paint any longer
More susceptible to mineral deposit or water spots
Lasts longer than waxes or sealants, but may not look as good
Generally requires more detailed maintenance to keep looking proper
So it's not as cut and dry as you might think. It wasn't an easy decision for me to decide what coating to offer. I narrowed it down to 4 that I was considering. Kamikaze ISM, CarPro Cquartz UK 3.0, Dr. Beasley's Nano Resin Pro, and this Crystal Serum light. I have ISM on my RS and had it on my Gen 2 Raptor. I also did a section of the Raptor with Nano Resin Pro that looked and was applied much like ISM. Those two are the most "wax-like" I've encountered. Cquartz UK 3.0 probably beads and protects the best that I've found. It doesn't look as good as ISM or Nano Resin Pro, but I think it's durability is likely going to be better.
None of the above really matters to me any longer because I've found my preference. All of my Pro buddies kept telling me Crystal Serum Light. Finally when I got my hands on it, put it on the red R8, then ran my the back of my hand on the paint afterward, I instantly knew after all this decision making that this was the coating. Top CSL with EXO v4 and treat with Bead Maker regularly, and we have it. There are lots of great coatings on the market, but I don't want to be a retailer. I want to offer you the one I use. This is it.
What's in the box?:
30ml Bottles: This will do at least 2 car that way I use. You don't want to have a bunch of extra. The product won't last forever once you open it.
Applicator: This one works, but I would suggest getting the Cquartz suede applicators I have in the store.
Dripper: Works fine for me.
Wipe the car down with CarPro Eraser. (You have better polished the car before or you aren't OG approved.)
You don't want to need to use a ton of product. Just a few drops per 2' x 2' section. I apply in a cross hatch pattern. Check out the R8 video above.
I'd do about two sections, then wipe off one, do another, wipe off the previous, repeat...
CSL IS NOT LAYERABLE. One coat is all you need.
Let cure for at least 3 hour, preferably over night, then apply a coat of EXO v4.
Wait about 3 hours and apply a 2nd coat of EXO v4.
After the first wash, use Bead Maker as your drying aid, and you'll be good to go.
To apply CSL your vehicle must be indoors and it must remain indoors for at least 12 hours after application
Ambient conditions must be above 3 degrees celsius and below 25 degrees celsius. Wash and then decontaminate your vehicle’s paintwork. If required, clay your paintwork to remove other bonded contaminants
If needed, polish your paintwork, either by machine or by hand to remove any imperfections
Spray a product like CarPro Eraser onto a suitable microfiber towel
With your panel fully cooled after polishing, taking care to avoid any paint protection film or other types of vinyl film, buff away all polish residues. This process ensures you will get the maximum number of chemical bonds between the coating and your vehicle’s paintwork
Put on the gloves provided to prevent CSL coming into contact with your skin
Soak the application pad with two full measures from the pipette and work the liquid into the pad to get an even saturation
Replace the lid on the bottle and set aside - do not keep the bottle in your hand as this promotes premature curing
Apply with applicator provided in overlapping strokes to an area roughly 2’ x 2’, or work to the bodylines of the vehicle
After coating a single small panel or half a larger panel, remove residue with a <ahref="https://www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/microfiber/products/coating-removal-towel" target="_self">coating removal towel. Always remove from further than you have applied, working from the outside in. It is essential to check for residue
You may need to buff the same area several times to remove residue. We recommend using two <ahref="https://www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/microfiber/products/coating-removal-towel" target="_self">coating removal towel at any one time. Please note that you are only removing excess product
When working with coatings, we recommend you inspect the panels with a bright but diffuse light source, not with bright spot lights which are very poor for spotting coating residue
Avoid buffing with too much force as this can spoil the surface you are protecting, and you may also drag the partially cured coating off the surface
Take care that the microfiber towels you are using are rotated sufficiently and quickly so that CSL does not partially cure in the towel, if it does cure then buffing residue will be significantly more difficult
If you miss removing residue and it cures fully, you should re-polish this area, and reapply CSL
As soon as you finish put the microfibers in water, and wash and dry them as soon as possible
Use CSL within 1 year of purchasing, for best results, once opened use within 3 months
Store opened bottles in a dry and cool storage area that is out of direct sunlight
Ensure that you have sufficient product to coat your vehicle. For cars up to and including a medium estate car eg a BMW 3 series touring, 30ml is sufficient but for full sized cars including 4x4s. Larger SUVs will need the larger 50ml bottle
EXOv4 can be applied as a standalone sealant or as a top layer for Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light (CSL) - we recommend applying CSL as a base coat for easy to mark and dark paints
If you are applying over C1, EXOv4 should be applied more than 2 hours but less than 12 hours after you finish the C1 application
If you are applying over CSL, EXOv4 can either be applied straight away after you have finished applying CSL starting the process at the same place you did with CSL and following the same order of panels you did with CSL, or it can be applied up to 24 hours after finishing the CSL application
Ensure that your vehicle is out of direct sunlight but warmer than 5 degrees celsius, is completely dry and will stay dry for at least 12 hours after application
If needed, polish your paintwork either by machine or by hand to remove any imperfections
Wipe down all surfaces using a product like CarPro Eraser and a <ahref="https://www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/microfiber/products/coating-removal-towel" target="_self">coating removal towel. If you are applying over newly applied CSL, this step is not required
Put on the nitrile gloves provided
Drop several (between 5 and 10) drops of product onto the applicator provided. Work the liquid into the pad to get an even saturation
Apply with applicator provided in overlapping strokes to an area roughly 2’ x 2’ (60x60cm), or work to the bodylines of the vehicle
If the surface of the vehicle is between 5 and 15 degrees celsius, wait for two minutes and then fold your first towel twice to form a square, spread and remove most of the residue using a light touch. If the surface is between 15 and 25 celsius wait for one minute and for temperatures above this, remove immediately
With your second folded towel remove all remaining residues. We advise to move your head so that you get direct and oblique views of your finish to spot all residue. It is also advisable to use bright, but flat lighting, to make residue spotting easier
Once you have finished coating your vehicle we recommend repeating the process starting from the same place as you did for the first layer and coating panels in the same order so that you coat your entire vehicle with two layers of EXOv4. You do not need to wait between applying the first and second coating but it will not make it harder to apply the second coating if you do leave a much longer interval between applying the first and second layer
Allow the coating to cure for at least 12 hours before getting wet
We recommend allowing at least one week pass before washing your car
For maintaining your finish we recommend hand washing your vehicle.
You will find that your vehicle is significantly easier to clean and whilst EXOv4 has significantly better resistance to caustic wash chemicals these chemicals will shorten the lifespan of any coating and are not recommended as part of your care routine
EXOv4 can be over coated with other products, but if this is done you will get the surface performance of the product you overcoat it with and not EXOv4
An unopened bottle of EXOv4 has a 12 month shelf life from the time of purchase
Store opened bottles in a dry and cool storage area that's out of direct sunlight
We recommend only using opened bottles within three months of opening
