I am excited beyond belief that my Temporary Garage is on its way. On the same day my Swisstrax Flooring arrived my trial Saber Magnum cabinet also showed up! So before I even started installing the Swisstrax Flooring I had to open up and assembled the cabinet to check out the quality first hand.
Originally, I was settled on getting a cabinet array from Lista. Lista is one of those man crush things. I have absolutely zero need for them and yet yearn for them more than I can explain. There is something about the ability to hold 400+lbs in a drawer that appeals to me.
As I am sure many of you know, “Lista ain’t cheap!” My 24′ wall I plan on doing was going to run me somewhere in the neighborhood of $23K!!! I woke up one morning on the reality side of the bed and realized this is my “Temporary Garage.”
I stumbled upon a thread on Garage Journal that was talking about Saber Cabinets. These seemed perfect, a fifth the cost of Lista and much better quality than the Geneva cabinets I already have. So I got on the phone and talked to the distributor.
I really want ed black cabinets, but the guy that imports them said their black design is too shiny. He sent me some photos and suggested I go with a neutral grey. He won’t have a fix for the black until later next year. I don’t want red or blue.
They have a deal where you can order an un-assembled cabinet at no risk. You pay for the shipping and the cabinet and get to send it back for a full refund if you don’t like it. He said he’s only had two cabinets come back. I thought that was a good sign.
So the sample showed up the same day as my flooring. I was eager to assemble it.
When you order them from Saber, they actually come assembled through a freight company. It figures that I’m the furthest possible distance from Nevada, so shipping costs was about 18% of the purchase price due to the weight I had.
19 gauge steel is pretty hefty for the price. $175 for this cabinet.
I have searched far and wide for an acceptable cabinet. Since this is eventually going to become the family garage, these cabinets are going to be perfect. It going to cost just over $6k. I’d say that’s just a tad bit more acceptable than $20k++.
